You may have seen in the media that GP's have balloted to take collective action. This is not a step that GP's have taken lightly. Historically, practices have worked above and beyond their contracts to keep up with patient demand, while being instructed to offer extra services by NHS England and not received appropriate funding. Full information about this can be found here.
From the 1st of August, the BMA have set-up a list of actions that GP surgeries can take as part of the Collective Action. We will not take action on all of these elements and we will keep you updated. The list of actions proposed by BMA can be found here. We do want to reassure you that the team will always ensure patient safety.
GP’s have made the decision to take Collective Action to try to drive change that enables practices to work within the contract agreed with NHS England and of course to improve funding to General Practice. Over the years there has been scope creep in the activities general practice has taken on and this means surgeries are doing a lot of work that we are not paid for. More information about this can be found here.
This does mean that you may see some changes in the way we work and the things we do. Our team are happy to discuss this with you if you have any questions. Our Practice Manager, Samantha Sales is also available to discuss this with you if you have any questions.
